Extractions

Teeth extraction is a standard procedure for various reasons, such as badly fractured teeth, wisdom teeth removal, or preparation for orthodontic treatments.

Depending on the tooth’s condition, tooth extractions can be categorized as non-surgical or surgical. Surgical extractions are typically performed when the tooth is inaccessible or has not fully erupted. In such cases, a small incision is made to access the tooth, which may then be sectioned and removed in pieces. On the other hand, non-surgical extractions involve the careful use of dental forceps and an elevator to extract the tooth, often requiring anesthesia for pain relief.

Following a tooth extraction, bleeding from the gums is expected, which generally subsides within the first hour as a blood clot forms. Complete healing of the open wound typically takes about a week. Throughout one to two months, the socket becomes covered with soft gum tissue, and the final closure of the bony socket may take around six months or longer due to natural bony remodeling.
